Fall 2016: Rutgers Percussion Foundations
Rutgers Percussion Foundations exists to bring young players age 10–14 into the varied world of percussion instruments and chamber music. Players will be afforded the opportunity to play and learn about the common instruments in a concert percussion section (battery and auxiliary) as well as a full range of keyboard percussion (marimba, xylophone, vibraphone), world instruments and hand drums (West African, Brazilian, and more), and entertaining novelty music.
Through this, listening skills, musical sound concepts, and a basic awareness of conducting patterns are built to help springboard students to become successful musicians in high school and beyond. It is recommended – but not required – that students prepare 1 or 2 contrasting selections to demonstrate their performance level.
